Job Summary

Under close professional supervision and following prescribed procedures, prepares doses of drugs for delivery from the Pharmacy to patient care areas. Assists with the delivery of these drugs and maintains records related to the dispensing of drugs and drug charges. Provides patient care to neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.

Qualifications - Minimum


High School graduate incorporating successful completion of algebra, biology, and chemistry.

Low unit of measure supply distribution experience is preferred. On the job orientation program is required.

Previous experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy environment preferred.

Ability to comprehend electronic, written and verbal instructions; correctly read prescriptions and other pharmaceutical requests, to understand medical and pharmaceutical terminology related to the use, form, and strength of medication required.

Mathematical ability needed for compounding or preparing correct doses of medications, measuring drug components for intravenous or topical preparations.

Knowledge of basic chemistry and physiology reactions and combinations.

Ability to type and operate a computer terminal and document data. Knowledge of basic office and computer skills.

Must have Pharmacy Technician certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or other American Society of Health System Pharmacy (ASHP) approved organization or obtain within twelve months of employment.
