Nationwide Product Portfolio Management Specialist - Commercial Property Casualty Insurance in Columbus Metro, Ohio
This person will perform commercial lines portfolio management duties for the Central Atlantic region.
Required skills and experience:
Strong technical skills, especially in Excel and Tableau

Prior experience within Property Casualty Product, Pricing or Underwriting
Preferred, but not required:
Proficiency in SAS, SQL
Commercial Lines experience or familiarity

JOB SUMMARY: Supports Commercial Lines Underwriting and Product as an expert in portfolio analysis and agency performance for small commercial markets. Analyzes and supports development and execution of underwriting, automation and operational strategies to efficiently and effectively manage the Small Commercial Portfolio. Provides support to Commercial Lines Underwriting and Product team members, providing guidance on specific risk characteristics, underwriting appetite and guidelines, and business relationships. Provides on-site commercial staff support for underwriting personnel in the region.
RELATIONSHIP: Reports to Product Director/Manager. No direct or indirect reports.
Gathers market intelligence information from multiple sources including agents, underwriters, data warehouse and other relevant databases.
Analyzes regional underwriting performance; identifies problem areas and opportunities at the region, state, territory and agency levels. Identifies agents having largest impact on profit and growth. Analyzes automated underwriting and small commercial results to validate current selection assumptions, identifies adverse selection and trends, and evaluates solutions.
Educates regional underwriting and product partners on strategic business unit information to help them understand concepts and application of current or future direction. May provide training to lower level associates. Assists the commercial trainer with practical exercises for new associates as requested. May mentor or provide training to lower level associates.
Works closely with the product manager in utilizing market information to formulate pricing and product strategies. Creates plans to support agency segmentation and small commercial strategy. Creates and proposes action plans to address identified opportunities and issues.
Provides input and recommendations to regional leadership regarding product and pricing for small commercial and filed rating plans. Shares rate/rating issues that need to be addressed in rate reviews with product manager and underwriting management.
Coordinates agency segmentation efforts, if applicable, including identifying potential changes to agency segment placement and benefits within the segments. Supports agency review process for the region. Assists in underwriting initiative rollouts and implementation as requested.
Participates in and has responsibility for significant portions of Enterprise line of business projects. Represents Small Commercial in meetings and other forums.
Communicates findings and issues to appropriate leaders or groups. Presents materials for understanding and may recommend or draft communication to Product, Underwriting or other teams regarding significant operational issues.
Promotes collaboration among regional counterparts to develop and share best practices and findings. Collaborates with Staff partners to ensure alignment with strategy and development initiatives.
Provides expertise and consulting based upon requests from underwriting and product. Regional key contact for Small Commercial Business Portfolio questions and concerns.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelors degree in business administration, insurance or related field preferred.
Designations: Participation in or completion of technical insurance programs CPCU, CLU, IIA preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 6 years experience in commercial lines underwriting or product preferred. Will consider cross-functional experience from another functional area.
Knowledge: Detailed knowledge of commercial lines insurance products and ratings, state regulations, underwriting policies and procedures, and best practices. Demonstrated knowledge of insurance contracts and forms to properly interpret and provide counsel to underwriting management and associates. Working knowledge of financials, trend analysis and competitor data to assist in effective territory management and counsel of Underwriting team. Proficiency in MS Excel, query-based language and/or statistical software experience preferred.
