Position Summary

The primary purpose of the Staff Sonographer is to work independently with the cardiologist to provide patient care, provide patient and family education and support, and to work cooperatively with the health care team in maintaining standards of care as established within the framework of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, American Society of Echocardiography, and the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission.

Position Accountabilities

  1. Generalpatient scheduling and processing of echocardiography tests

  2. Performs adult and pediatric echocardiogram procedure according to established protocol

  3. Prepares patients for and assists with TEE procedures according to protocol

  4. Has the ability to train to stress echo and Dobutamine stress echo according to protocol

  5. Conducts patient assessment prior to procedure

  6. Utilizes critical thinking skills to interpret data and act appropriately

  7. Maintains volume and proficiency requirements per IAC guidelines to assure competency

  8. Participates in training and education programs

  9. Creates and fosters a work environment that is consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of the Aultman Health Foundation

  10. Supports strategic organizational goals

  11. Abides by the Aultman Code of Conduct at all times

Position Qualifications

· Minimum Education:High School Diploma. Must have adequate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and current instrumentation

· Required Credentials, License and/or Certifications: Minimum 2 years in Echocardiography training. 3D echocardiography and structural heart procedure experience preferred. Currently licensed to practice as a registered sonographer

· Management Qualities: Ability to function independently and efficiently

· Leadership Expertise: Ability to function confidently and professionally with patients and other health care professionals
