Job Summary:

The Leader Quality Assurance – Manufacturing coordinates, leads, and performs activities associated with quality, continuous improvement, regulatory, safety, and social compliance within Newell facilities. Specifically this position is responsible for overseeing the Quality systems for our Assembly and Packaging operations. This position will supervise a team of quality auditors.

This position will:

  • Oversee Quality directly for manufacturing and indirectly for supplies

  • Review internal processes and procedures using data-driven problem analysis tools to fix operating issues and reduce Cost of Quality & Failure

  • Manage and monitor the activities of manufacturing Quality associates, supplier operations, and support personnel to meet goals set for overall Quality initiatives

  • Lead projects and initiatives with a broad scope and high impact to the business.

  • Drive Continuous Improvement throughout the operation

  • Meet all KPIs as developed by the Quality Leadership Team

  • Support NPD activities

  • Execute the Strategic Plan developed by the Quality Leadership team

Job Responsibilities

Business Acumen – 50 %

  • Enforce a corrective action system that ensures the timely and permanent resolution of all failures to meet established quality requirements.

  • Enforce quality requirements in accordance with contract, engineering specifications, and established procedures. Provide in-process and final acceptance inspection for all components, subassemblies, and assemblies built by manufacturing.

  • Drive Cost of Quality & Failure Reduction on monthly base

  • Collaborate and drive initiatives as requested

Technical Leadership – 25 %

  • Manage team members development plans to ensure appropriate plans are in place.

  • Approve supplier first article submissions

  • Lead manufacturing Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).

  • Lead QMS with manufacturing and suppliers sites.

  • Lead Product Safety Compliance.

  • Maintain records of vendor quality performance. Provide summary reports of this performance for management use.

  • Initiate and implement programs of improving the Site Quality level and reducing the total cost of quality.

  • Participate in the material review process and provide inputs with regards to disposition on non-conforming material.

  • Lead Quality System/Regulatory Process/Internal Audit Process/ Ethical and Safety compliance to ensure through customer annual Factory Certification

Problem Solving – 10 %

  • Work with manufacturing & suppliers on resolving product or process issues, material issues, root cause analysis, and corrective actions

  • Investigate and report results of consumer returns.

  • Assist production with daily quality issues.

Communication – %

  • Provide management reports to highlight the achieved level of quality and status of actions necessary for its improvement.

  • Maintain records of inspections and product acceptance performance. Provide summary reports as required for management use.

Organizational Agility – %

  • Coordinate manufacturing or supplier continuous improvement programs

Technical Mastery – %

  • Develop quality policies, procedures and quality system development

  • Run capability studies and analyze data.


Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technical engineering or science discipline

  • 7 years of operations/manufacturing experience

  • Lean and Six Sigma experience

  • Strong leadership experience and skills

  • Directing and leading a multi-shift Quality organization

Skills and Competencies

  • Lean and Six Sigma experience and experience with Minitab software a plus

  • Thorough knowledge of quality methods and systems is required (statistics, reliability, sampling and auditing)

  • ISO/TS quality system working knowledge and auditing experience preferred

  • An experienced background in various types of manufacturing

  • Specific knowledge in injection molding, automated assembly and packaging is preferred

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong project management and problem solving abilities

  • Negotiation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously

  • ASQ certification a plus
