Summary: Responsible for safe efficient practices for decontamination, instrument assembly, wrapping and sterilization of all reprocessed instruments and distribution equipment. Case cart management. Supports departmental initiatives to meet productivity standard and flexible staffing needs.
Job Responsibilities: Performs case pull functions. Determines appropriate case carts to be built for specialty procedures. Builds case carts ensuring adherence to procedures. Dispatches case carts to ensure they are available to surgical/clinical procedures. Performs record keeping functions, e.g. processing, sterilization, quality assurance, etc. Performs ordering, stocking and inventory control functions. Maintains adequate levels, inventories, and orders supplies; stock supplies.. Participates in in-service education. Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned.
Education: High School Diploma/GED
Experience: Minimum six (6) months experience within the Surgical Processing, Central Service or operating room environment within CC or one (1) year experience outside required within these related areas, or successful completion of a recognized training program and certification or certification eligibility may substitute for up to three (3) months experience. After selection and placement into this position, nine (9) months of on-the-job training to learn inventory control functions, operation and testing of sterilizers, processing of complex instrumentation, case cart building, regulations and quality control standards. Preferred one (1) year experience in all phases of CPD.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certified Surgical Processing Technician obtained from a recognized training program (IAHCSMM or CBSPD). Responsible to maintain certification status.
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform duties while standing, sitting, stooping, and reaching for long periods of time; ability to lift up to 25 pounds on a continual basis; ability to push, pull, and navigate carts weighing up to 200 pounds and manual dexterity sufficient to perform the basic functions of the job; exposure to environments of bacterial and viral contamination, and possible exposure to sterilization gases.
