Job Summary

A laboratory technician is trained and certified to perform specimen processing and/or moderately and highly complex analysis of body fluid and biological specimens to diagnose and treat disease. May report results; functioning within established policy and procedure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Analysis and Problem Solving:

Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results.

Corrects problems or reports them immediately to a supervisor.

Assists with the gathering data for development and evaluation of test methodology and instrumentation.

Communication and Coordination:

Provides training, orientation and teaching as instructed.

Responds to requests for special and unusual tests.

Maintenance and Quality Monitoring:

Performs corrective maintenance and repairs and documents activities.

Adheres to the departments' quality control policies and documents such activities.

Manages multiple priorities and coordinates general workflow to complete tasks in a timely and effective manner.

Qualifications - Minimum

Education:

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Associates degree (A.S.) from an accredited MLT program, as well as certification from a nationally recognized agency such as ASCP.
