Job Description

Job Corps’ mission is to assist eligible youth to connect to the labor force by providing comprehensive and integrated academic, career technical, workforce preparation and independent living skills and support services leading to: Successful careers in in-demand industry sectors or occupations or the Armed Services that will result in economic self-sufficiency and opportunities for advancement; Enrollment in postsecondary education, including an apprenticeship program leading to long-term attachment to the labor force; and Responsible citizenship.

Summary of Duties:

Responsible for providing career technical training to students in accordance with approved curricula to ensure they leave the program as graduates that attain and maintain employment.

Description of Duties:

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Promotes a positive and desirable atmosphere within the classroom/training environment, ensuring maximum student motivation and outcomes: Maintains a high degree of discipline within the training area. Adequately prepares for instruction. Integrates math, reading, and writing concepts with employability and Career Success Standards skills with lesson planning. Maintains a clean and clutter free work environment.

  • Develops and implements an effective course curriculum for students’ successful completion of the training program: Utilizes Job Corps guidelines and subject course guide. Has an accurate syllabus for the course and completes lesson plans as required. Identifies appropriate materials. Seeks input from industry advisors. Designs instruction to meet individual student needs and ensures curriculum developed is sufficient for student to pass all tests and certifications. Schedules field trips, guest speakers, workshops, and other special projects to augment career training. Develops and implements CSS projects. Designs curriculum to ensure students meet their academic training needs.

  • Maintains an active Industry Advisory Council. Has a monthly Workforce Council meeting. Ensures that at least one member of the Workforce Council participates in the quarterly general Workforce Council meeting. Ensures that Workforce Council meets requirements of the PRH to include responsibilities.

  • Ensures that Work-based Learning is used to support training: Assists in the development and use of WBL sites. Provides supervision of students at the sites. Assists in developing community linkages and volunteers for the CTT department.

  • Identifies and prepares potential students for the ACT and AT programs: Assists students in the Center’s ACT process. Assists all students in the college enrollment and financial aid process. Has scholarship information available to all potential candidates. Prepares students for AT opportunities. Refers students to the ACT/AT coordinator for enrollment.

  • Implements an Applied Academics program: Meets with academic instructors to identify required skills that can be taught and reinforced with applying technical skills in an academic setting and in technical instruction. Develops and implements applied academic projects.

  • Supports job placement efforts: Ensures that students participate in the Career Transition Readiness program. Identifies and maintains a necessary number of Work-based Learning sites. Ensures that students participate in leisure time employment. Ensures that graduates are placed in an initial career transition activity as well as are placed and take the 6 month and 12 month survey.

  • Maintains accurate record keeping: Submits ESPs in a timely manner, documents student progress for inclusion on the ETA 640 profile. Records daily attendance. Administers accurate completion of the Training Achievement Records (TAR) precisely and in a timely manner. Documents students’ progress in case notes at least monthly. Maintains curriculum necessary to attain goals. Maintains a lesson plan binder and prepares lesson plans at least two weeks in advance. Submits necessary schedule change information. Documents and distributes PCDPs as necessary. Ensures documented contact with the parents of a minor at least every other month.

Required Skills

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree preferred. High School Diploma and experience instructing.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

Certified in field of instruction, accredited or part of union or affiliated with trade. Valid state driver’s license;

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
