Addendum: This position can be hired as a Consultant or a Specialist based on experience.

This role is an actuarial support role supporting Nationwide Innovative Solutions (NIS). Primary responsibilities are:

  • Preparing monthly loss reserving analyses and related reporting for A&H, life, and P&C products in NIS’ diverse product portfolio

  • Preparing loss analytics and providing insight to business unit leadership and product leaders

  • Providing reinsurance support related to reserving and financial reporting

  • Liaising with several corporate areas including NF Actuarial, P&C Reserving, Corporate Reinsurance, Enterprise Risk Management, as well as with external consultants

  • Making meaningful progress on team’s continuous improvement initiatives

SUMMARY: Serves as an actuarial technical consultant/expert for planning, driving, communicating and executing projects that many impact multiline lines and/or administrative areas.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Retrieves and manipulates the most complex actuarial related data using various sources/systems. Integrates new variables in the current processes.2. Acts as an individual technical consultant/expert responsible for developing, scheduling, control and coordinating high-level project activity across multiple systems and administration areas.3. Maintains project work plans, and prepared formal documentation of all results. Prepares and/or make presentations regarding key findings. Delivers expert testimony as needed.4. Makes decisions after evaluating diverse alternative solutions; consults with actuarial staff and business partners to gain approval of theory; oversees adoption/implementation as appropriate.5. Prepares internal memos, documents, and letters. Oversees communications of assigned staff as necessary. Communications are to be concise, logical, organized, and grammatically correct with the appropriate level of technical terms suitable to the audience.6. Manages personal work schedule and schedules of other project team members or direct reports to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks; coordinates with others as appropriate..7. Oversees Peer and Tech reviews8. As consultant, may participate in the hiring and training of additional staff. As manager, responsible for the management of associates including: performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow planning, hiring and placement and disciplinary actions. Serves an subject matter expert for department associates.9. Serves as project leader/manager for special projects and teams. May supervise or serve as group leader/manager on an ongoing basis.RELATIONSHIP: Senior Actuary, Actuarial Officer, Actuarial Executive. May supervise from 0-5 associates.EDUCATION/ KNOWLEDGE: Bachelors degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics or related field with a strong quantitative orientation. Post graduate studies with degree preferred. Sound knowledge of actuarial methods/concepts, insurance terminology and products; evidence of familiarity with legal requirements in area of assignment. Must display command of procedures and methodologies employed in area of assignment. Broad based business knowledge.EXPERIENCE: Seven years experience in generating mathematical and statistical spreadsheets/reports as used in actuarial computation and documentation. Experience and success with high-level projects development/completion required. Supervisory experience preferred for managerial role. No actuarial exams required.SKILLS:Demonstrated work product accuracy. Effective oral/written communication skills; Demonstrated ability to think logically and handle non-routine assignments; Ability to effectively use personal computer and all related actual and business software.
