The Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) is responsible for reviewing medical records to facilitate the accurate representation of the severity of illness and risk of mortality. This involves extensive record review, interaction with physicians, coding professionals, care managers and other nursing staff. Active participation in the quarterly Utilization Management meeting and other education of staff in the clinical documentation program is a key role.
Minimum Requirements-Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school, BSN, preferred. Must have a current Registered Nurse license. Must have at least 3 years of case management experience in an acute care setting. BCLS certification within 6 months.
