Title: Surgical Support Staff Assistant Shift: Days This position will be in The Christ Hospital Operating Room located at 2139 Auburn Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45219. Job Overview: This role provides fundamental care and services to the patient, family, and the unit environment. The scope of service encompasses patient safety, customer service, providing a safe and clean environment for the surgical patient. The Surgical Support Staff Assistant may perform the following duties:
Completes room cleaning between surgical cases according to AORN Standards to ensure turnaround time between cases is at a minimum.
Calls maintenance for necessary repairs, stocks supplies in room according to standards.
Proper cleaning, care and placement of essential equipment needed for scheduled cases.
Maintains orderliness and efficiency of the work environment
Takes specimens to Breast Center (MOB) and returns them to the O.R. rooms. Then takes biopsy to pathology after x-ray.
Ensures beds/stretchers/carts are in appropriate position for patient’s safety.
Returns to unit promptly in case of patient emergency, fire, or disaster and reports to person in charge.
Shares pertinent patient information.
Ensures patient consent is signed and then signs SDS record.
Understands sterile technique.
Provides patient comfort and hygiene for patients as directed by Registered Nurse. Reports significant information to the R.N.
Reports observations/data to appropriate team members (R.N., AAC, and/or surgeon).
Keeps CPR current.
Supports the team in providing clinical care.
Performs other duties as required or directed. Cooperation is demonstrated in the performance of other duties within scope of job description; unit meetings are attended when on duty; attends required in-services and education programs as assigned.
