Position Summary:

The Manager/Director, Professional Education will be responsible for organizing and implementing all training programs for AtriCure sales associates as well as facilitate the planning, execution and measurement of physician education programs. The Manager/Director will design and develop methodologies, job aids and other materials that will leverage knowledge and skills in the areas of evaluation and measurement. The position will also oversee the physician consulting agreement administrative function. This position requires meeting with internal clients to determine their specific business needs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop evaluation/research agendas targeting specific needs

  • Create/edit surgical and anatomy content for electronic media and training resources

  • Employ state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies in conducting evaluation/applied research projects

  • Continuously analyze training programs and recommend enhancements

  • Monitor and record individual progress and gap-closing strategies

  • Update curriculum in accordance with new products and procedure developments

  • Proactively coordinate trainings

  • Implement methods and tactics for continuous, ongoing and advanced training, including journal clubs

  • Develop and implement structured, modular curriculum for field personnel, including but not limited to the following:

  • Open procedures, including hands-on wet lab

  • MIS procedures, including hands-on wet lab

  • Stroke prevention

  • Competition (drugs to devices)

  • Market dynamics

  • Product portfolio, including logger and UPE collection

  • Selling strategies, tools, and pitches

  • Publications

  • Targeting and managing referral physicians and key influencers

  • Compliance, Advamed, Blood-borne pathogens

  • Provide communications to the field sales force as necessary

  • Partner with sales and marketing to ensure that training programs support business strategies

  • Plan and conduct evaluation projects, performance analyses and needs assessments

  • Communicate evaluation/research results in a meaningful and useful way to leadership and other key decision makers

  • Serve as internal technical expert in the areas of evaluation and measurement

  • Tutor, coach, and/or mentor others in areas of expertise

  • Keep current on new surgical procedures and other technical initiatives of company


  • Undergraduate degree in Education, Life Science, Engineering or related area

  • 10+ years of experience in a comparable position

  • 3+ years of professional experience in training

  • Data analysis experience

  • Written/report writing skills

  • Verbal communication skills

  • Management experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years outside sales experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the medical device industry in a clinical, training, or technical position, or other related area

  • Operating room environment experience

  • Experience with developing training materials and conduction of trainings

  • Working knowledge of Audio Visual and Control Systems or Computer Network systems

  • Must have the ability to work independently, as well as in a team, in a very fast paced environment

  • Strong training methodology needed

  • Ability to capture attention and motivate a team around a discussion

  • Ability to summarize and present complex information to others effectively

  • Ability to understand the implication of lack of compliance for regulated processes


  • Experience in the cardio-thoracic or electrophysiology medical device industry

  • Program management and Key Opinion Leader (KOL) physician relationship management experience

  • Sales training experience
