Western & Southern Financial Group has an immediate opportunity for a AVP & Director, Accounting & Actuarial Systems.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Provides leadership and direction to support business objectives of the Western & Southern Financial Group (W&SFG) through cost-effective use of technology, staff and appropriate business practices. Leads production support and development efforts for assigned application programming or technology infrastructure teams. Ensures efficient, cost-effective operation, and oversees project development and implementation, in addition to normal managerial expectations. Works with minimal supervision and is responsible to independently make a broad range of critical decisions, escalating to executive-level associates only when appropriate.
•Ensures efficient, cost-effective operation of the department while maintaining an appropriate minimum number and level of properly trained individuals for production support to all application systems.
•Supports new project/enhancement efforts that provide greatest return to the (W&SFG) as determined by senior management and work authorization process.
•Acquires knowledge of applications and areas supported in order to contribute to success of departments served.
•Advises on Information Services’ budget and capital expenditure requests and ensure all systems expenses are within budget and/or properly controlled.
•Stays current with trends in our business and information services and networking, and is aware of our competitors’ strategies and major operational initiatives.
•Assists in hardware, software and technology evaluations.
•Develops and executes strategic initiatives in their operation that give (W&SFG) a competitive edge.
•Maintains and recommends ways to improve IS management and tools.
•Recruit, hire, train and develop staff. Provides direction to and development of associates through daily coaching, the administration of the Performance Management Program and the creation and implementation of development plans.
•Reports orally and in writing on the progress and status of departmental and committee responsibilities, as required.
•Negotiates hardware, software and services contracts with vendors.
•Coordinates application systems emergency recovery activities for assigned department.
•Perform other duties as assigned by management.
•Proven experience successfully managing direct reports, while coordinating multiple large- and small-scale projects/assignments simultaneously, accurately and on a timely basis. Must demonstrate a strong attention to detail with excellent organization skills. Expected to cite examples of organization and time management/methods used to manage or prioritize workload demands. Must demonstrate project management experience in planning, executing and maintaining a project from start to finish.
•Proven knowledge of current financial services hardware and software applications and up-to date industry and technical information used to achieve business objectives. Cite examples of background in selecting and developing technology solutions that facilitate efficiency and increased revenue or expense reduction on a broad scale.
•Proven experience interacting with all levels of individuals in a companies’ organization to meet business objectives. Demonstrated experience working with external hardware and software vendors to provide cost-effective services that meet Company requirements.
•Demonstrated ability to successfully identify future requirements for the financial services industry’s technology needs and to develop plans and successfully implement requirements within a department operation.
•Proven experience negotiating hardware, software and/or service contracts with vendors.
•Demonstrated experience leading and motivating teams. This would include providing direction, coaching and effective feedback to team members and indirect reporting relationships.
•Demonstrated ability to implement and champion change on a large technological scale.
•Proven strong analytical skills, including demonstrated experience identifying and quantifying complex problems and providing effective resolutions. Must be able to cite examples of good decision-making skills when dealing with multiple alternatives.
•Strong project management skills - must cite examples of developing, organizing, initiating and maintaining large and small scale projects and successfully accomplishing set goals.
•Possesses and displays excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to convey information to internal and external customers in a clear, focused and concise manner.
•Demonstrated experience working independently. Experience must include identifying and resolving problems where independent decision-making and initiative were demonstrated.
•Must possess and display flexibility to transition easily between projects, often on short notice and under demanding situations.
•Proven history of high performance results, high energy and a passion for the business.
•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or commensurate selection criteria experience.
Computer skills and knowledge of hardware & software required:
•Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, database applications and presentation software.
Certifications & licenses (i.e. Series 6 & 63, CPA, etc.):
•Extended hours required during peak workloads or special projects and off-hour support.
•The use of a pager is necessary when providing off-hour support.
